30 Thanks: 1. Pat Gerhardt and Third Street Stuff

by Ryan on November 1, 2012

Seedleaf has received so many gifts of time and effort over the past five years, way more than we can cover in a month’s worth of posts. But during this season of harvest and thanksgiving, we have 30 we’d like to remember.

Pat Gerhardt is a classy lady. She is friendly every time I have ever walked through the door at Third Street Stuff. As the walls of this coffee shop would indicate, Pat is willing to try new things. This was certainly the case in 2008 when Seedleaf was breaking ground at the London Ferrill Community Garden, just a couple of blocks from Pat’s place. We were talking that spring about compost and we agreed that we should try to compost the veggie waste and coffee grounds from Third St Stuff. So we did, and Seedleaf was able to keep up all summer, composting that material at our new garden. This was the humble beginnings of our Compost Partners Program, an effort that now picks up at 21 restaurants and kitchens. Pat was willing to have her staff do the extra work that summer of separating out the organic waste, and was willing to take a leap with us. For that, and for all the carafes of coffee that have been donated to our work days over the years, we are very grateful to Pat and the crew at Third Street Stuff.

You can echo our thanks and support Seedleaf in our work of nourishing communities by donating now through the GoodGiving Guide Challenge. And join us tonight at the Launch Party at  West 6th Brewing.
